Vaastu is derived from the root Sanskrit word 'VAAS' which means to reside. It is Our body, as also the whole universe, is made of up five elements (air, water, fire, earth and space). Vasstu is based on the principle of maintain a balance of these five elements in the proper directions. Various cosmic forces are at working these universe and they release positive and negative energies. Vasstu helps us to counter the negative forces and harness the positive once. Living in harmony with the principles of Vasstu leads to peaceful living which strengths our spirit and bio-electric field (Aura).

There are ancient books dealing with Vasstu shashtra are Viswakarma Prakash and Samrangan Shutradhar. The epics of Mahabharat, Ramayan, Matasya Puran, make a prominent mention of Vasstu. RigVeda suggests the worship of Vasstu Dev should be performed before construction of a house. Lord Vishwakarma is the god of Vasstu shahtra.

There is a link between Vasstu and Astrology. Vasstu is based on the direction of Sun, while Astrology is based on the direction of planets. A particular direction may be suitable two persons, having a specific zodiac sign. One could well to see the compatibility of Sun sign to see the direction of the house. Bhoomi Pujan, Griha Pravesh, Vaastu Poozan, and Graha Shanti Yagya cannot be done without the help of astrology. Apart from deciding rooms in a house Vasstu helps in Mantra, Yantra and farming also.
